Very cool for Stem Projects
My 8 year old went to a stem camp and fell in love with snap circuits. They are nice and help them learn the basics of wiring and how electronics work. I bought this one that seems to have alot of projects in hopes to help her develop more interest and skills in this area. This is easy for her to use and understand.

Absolutely great STEM toy, 1 broken piece but Elenco replaced it
The set is great and my 8 year old is obsessed and loves it. However one of the main light pieces came broken and it wonât stay on. It just flashes once and then shuts off, tried it in a few different set ups and it just wouldnât work.I was able to put in a request for a replacement piece via the websites replacement form so hopefully that comes in.Our other basic set that was gifted to us is 100% with no problems. I definitely recommend these for any kid who is into science or stem toys.UPDATE: review changed to 5 stars, although 1 piece came broken I submitted a request through their website (NOT the phone number, but Elenco directly) and we were sent a replacement part after showing proof that it was not working. 5/5 customer service.

Niece LOVES âLightâ Version
I was on the fence between Light, Green Energy, and something cheaper involving gooey science projects, and Iâm glad I spent the extra on Light. My niece is pretty smart for a 6 year old (itâs 8+), but once she was able to connect âmatch the pieces to the pictureâ she was really excited about it. The grid was initially challenging for her, and Iâm not sure she understands the z-index ordering of pieces from the diagram numbers, but itâs close enough to Legos that she could pretty quickly figure it out from the pictures.I was initially skeptical about the construction, since you have to push pretty hard to snap the pieces together, but once she figured out how the pieces stack and to only push down on the buttons, the danger of pieces snapping in half was reduced dramatically. Only use SnapCircuits on a sturdy table, ideally a large one.My niece did not know how to put batteries into, well anything, but I think she now understands:-which direction goes towards the springs now-electricity moves in different directions (the arrows are SUPER helpful for explaining) like water or a current-it must complete a circle somehow or else it wonât light upShe can more-or-less read the instructions at her age, but I donât think her reading comprehension is quite at the instructionsâ level yet, or that explanations about resistors will be appreciated, so she definitely needs an adult to help out for now, but it seems like something that will grow with her (and there are more kits out there!).She went through 5 projects in ~1-2 hours, so there are probably hundreds of hours of entertainment between the booklet and online projects.She was most excited about the discs when the box was opened, but then she was excited about the lights. We did not get to any of the audio components and several other items. She was really excited when she figured out, after breaking and fixing project 3, that you could take the black and red wires, and if you connect them to either side of the batteries and the light, that you can turn the light on and off.Her momâs dad gave her electrical projects as a kid, but it was difficult to find *many* kid-friendly electrical projects, so she didnât get very farâ it made her happy to see her daughter excited about Project 5 of 150.My niece is 6 and now has a vague comprehension of how electricity works, and more importantly, sheâs excited about it. Probably one of the smartest gifts for a kid who really likes following instructions, assembling stuff, and things that light up.

A gift for 10+ kids, but many age groups might enjoy this. If for a kid, you’ll most likely need an adult to help, and some projects REQUIRE adult supervision. Basic function is that the circuits snap into each other using a plastic grid. Instructions include placement and the order in which the circuits should be added. This version centers on LEDs and music, and has different types of switches to activate the LEDs.To me, the key feature is a piece called the “color organ,” which allows for hookup to a music-playing device (AUX cable IS included). Some experiments set up the LEDs to “follow” the music. The color organ has an IN and OUT jack. If you use only the IN jack with your music device then you’ll need to connect the included speaker within the circuitry (instructions will guide you). The OUT jack can be used to hook the circuit up to a stereo system. If you want to play your music device through the IN and also Output to a stereo, you’ll need your own [additional] AUX cable.The instruction manual is very detailed and is mostly written in layman’s terms. It gives overviews of electricity, circuitry, and light. Some projects are based off preceding projects and only involve swapping out a few pieces, but still this counts toward the total 182 experiments. For those interested in the specs, check out the company website for manuals and parts lists.PROS-well-organized packaging-instructions explain the logic behind each experiment-parts seem durable-upgrade kits and spare parts available on Elenco website for fair prices.CONS-project instructions are single pictures of overhead views. Some could be more kid-friendly and broken up into step-by-step pics.-the plastic light tower does not stay in place very well-the speaker is low output and may sound grainy when hooked up to a music device.

I bought this for my nephew’s 7th birthday. Whilst the kit says 8+ the nephew is very ahead in this area academically and into science and engineering so I got him this (to use with some initial supervision). The build quality of the kit is superb, there are some really lovely touches (for example a flying spinner that’s part of the kit is glow in the dark). The projects in the booklet are well described and easy to assemble, and the building blocks are designed in a way that it makes it easy to assemble the projects. There are also some very well thought out and engaging explanations as to what is going on within the projects. My nephew loves it – a really great educational toy especially for Lego enthusiasts who like building things
