I have only had this for about 3 weeks. It’s still Fall so the squirrels have other options. Come the dead of Winter I’ll truly find out how effective this feeder is.
The squirrels have tried a couple of times to get at this, but failed so far. Any kind of weight (more than that of a bird) on the feeding posts will essential ‘close’ the doors to the feeder. I have the 3lb feeder which so far only requires me to refill it every 4 days or so. I’m keeping it simple filling it with Black Oil Sunflower seeds. The birds are having Zero problem getting to the food. So far the squirrels are content to eat what falls to the ground.
A good feeder, well built. Come the Winter and the squirrels start getting desperate we’ll find out just how durable this is. No regrets with the purchase.

it is perfect. No squirrels have been able to access the contents. It holds a large amount of seeds; I use it for sunflower seeds. It works as well as my squirrel buster plus feeder, and cost almost a third of it. Also an added plus, the seeds do not flow out all over the place but stay in the feeder for the birds. I’m extremely pleased on all counts and definitely recommend this model. Thank you.

I wanted a bird feeder to attract and watch colorful local birds, but we have a lot of squirrels in our neighborhood, and they are known to chew up everything (patio furniture, patio lights, pots, etc.), so I wanted something that would stand up to abuse. This is overall easy to fill, the lid is secure once you tighten the wire, and has lasted pretty well. I like that this is a large size and holds a lot of birdseed, so I don’t have to fill it up as often. The lid is metal as is the lower piece on which the birds sit, and I haven’t seen any damage from squirrels chewing. The mechanism that lowers and covers the openings works well overall, and the only issue I’ve seen is that the little rubber ‘valves’ that cover the holes wear out pretty quickly from being pecked and chewed, which allows seed to flow out more easily when you fill it or when the wind shakes the feeder. I think the squirrels have realized this, so they don’t seem to chew on the feeder, but they do shake it from above, which causes seed to fall on the ground and then they eat it. Overall it works pretty well and is affordable for what I need, and the birds really seem to like it.

Absolutely not Squirrel proof……….the little “rats” actually shimmied up the Sheep’s Hook poll and drained the feeder. I had to do a half plastic bottle cut in half and even then they undid the packing tape and pushed the plastic bottle out of the way! Had to buy squirrel food to distract them from the feeder!
