Garmin Have Thrown the Kitchen Sink at This
SatNav updates for my Land Rover Freelander 2 ceased a few years ago and had become very outdated. This Garmin DriveSmart 86 is way beyond my expectations to the point where there is so much brilliant functionality to describe. If you want a Car SatNav BUY THIS!

Excellent dashcam satnav
I have always been a fan of garmin satnavs and wanted to try one with a dashcam.as the speed sensing alerts, traffic camera alerts and lane guidance features cannot be found on any phone based alternate. There is not much improvement from the drive smart series. Alexa is missing and ok Garmin voice assist is hit and Miss for addresses but works great for volume, brightness etcCamera-wise I am satisfied – coming from a high end Nextbase dashcam world and this one is far more reliable, license plates are easily readable. Lane assist is hit and Miss.Mounting options are limited given the camera at back. Overall, I like it. There is room for improvement.

Absolutely awful.
I buy every garmin product eagerly before buying it, and I regret it every time. I don’t know why I can’t get as much service as google maps or apple maps by paying so much money for this damn thing. You are looking for an address, it does not find it, the touch sensitivity is not good, it is a nonsense product. If you want offline maps and navigation, just use apple maps, there is also lane assistance. I never think of buying garmin again.

Quality product
Bought to replace my old Garmin satnav so I knew what to expect. I particularly like the split screen when approaching a junction making it clear which lane to be in.

Bad, especially for the price
I used this twice, before returning it.I intentionally got one of the flagship Garmin satnav because I was hoping to upgrade our old tomtom: for the price tag, I was expecting a smooth experience. I was wrong. On the first trip, while connected to our phone to get live traffic info, it delected a delay ahead. So it took us on a massive detour in the city center, that not only did not save any time but added extra to an already tedious journey. The following day it refused to get traffic information despite being connected to the app (and traffic showing on my phone using google maps). Apparently that’s the only way to get traffic info so we got stuck in traffic with no idea of how long it would take to clear or if there were alternative routes. In all this, the app was happily showing the connected status, bombarding the screen with all pointless notifications we were getting on the phone. Everything, but the traffic. The dashcam was fine but the device tries to be too clever for its own good, alerting of lane drifting even when you are simply switching lanes. This is a £400 device that is meant to be a sat nav first and a dashcam second. It sucks as a satnav (a phone with google maps or waze does a way better job) and is only decent as a dashcam. Look eslewhere.

No issues whatever. Does absolutely everything I wanted from a sat nav. 10 out of 10.

Great GPS device, a little difficult to set up because it defaulted to Spanish. But now works well.My only issue is that Garmin removed the Travelapse feature which was present on my previous DriveAssist 51. I found this feature quite useful.
