NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Glow-in-the-Dark Solar System
Our 9 year old son is working through a school project on the solar system so this set landed at the perfect time.To start with you get the paint set to paint the planets as you wish so we tried to keep these as realistic as possible such as âthe red planet, and blue/green for earth. You also of course get a pot of paint that glows in the dark, this actually works really well, as do the glow in the dark stickers. All of the parts are supplied in the Airfix type way where you snap each piece away from a plastic framework.Building the system is quite straightforward and is sturdy when completedAlthough Pluto is no longer classed as a planet within our solar system I would have been pleased to see it be included, I think Pluto got a raw deal! Plus, My Very Educated Mother Just Showed us Nine Planets works so well!Overall this is an excellent set that is very interactive and educational.Highly recommended

Enjoyable and educational
This is a nice educational set for younger kids to learn about the solar system and build a 3D model. The box stipulates 8 years plus but I think younger kids with adult help can easily make this and have fun with it.The instructions are clear and easy to follow and also come in different languages. The set comes with everything needed to put together a 3D, moveable model of our solar system including the paint, paintbrush and pallette. The pieces are plastic, but this is a set for young kids and I think the materials are fully age appropriate. The only downside with this is that the planets are quite small so can be fiddly to paint, I had expected them to be a bit bigger. Unfortunately my son and I haven’t been able to complete this set yet as he’s broken his arm and can’t really do anything so we have to wait until we can put it together but he’s very excited about it.

Very beautiful and educational
Had a lovely time making it with my kid, well made and easy to follow instructions even for a 6yo. Turned out to be very nice, it’s good quality plastic

Very good, lots of information… gets kids off screens.
Really great. The set could do with being a bit more sturdy, I always think that about the national geo sets but I think that the aim is to bring education and for the price you pay, I do not think it is bad at all.On the whole, the things that are included and the time spent finding out about new things etc makes this set worth its weight in gold.A brilliant set, really great indeed.

Educational and fun to paint/assemble for kids
Got this for our son who is obsessed with space and arts and crafts. Was a little underwhelmed as it’s just a plastic stand with plastic balls. Comes with 6 paints, a glow in the dark paint, paintbrush and paint palette. He enjoyed painting them and setting up the planets on the stand. Comes with an educational poster and instructions. He had fun doing it and now has it on display in his room.

Solar System Model DIY
My son loves learning about planets and I got this DIY kit for him. It’s got eight planets and the sun in the centre. You can move the planets around too. It comes with 7 paints, a paintbrush, a paint palette and a model. One of the painting can grow in the dark.

Plastic fantastic – Not so fantastic – Also, I mourn for Pluto
Don’t let the product picture deceive you, this is just a load of bits of plastic shoved in a box. Very similar to an airfix kit, only here we have our solar system as opposed to some awesome military death machine.Paints and palette are provided, along with a mini poster which will give kids some guidance as to colour scheme.I have to be honest, this is a pretty uninspiring set, the scale is small and all the plastics feel super cheap, but the kit itself is not that cheap.. However, it will occupy a child for a few hours, and hopefully teach them a bit about our solar system.

Fun kit and educational
I got this kit for a nine-year-old who has become interested in all things to do with Space. It’s been a great rainy-day activity to paint and put together. My youngster used acrylic paint pens for most of the decorating the planets because they felt they could get better detail that way (the child is a perfectionist!). We also had a somewhat intense discussion of why the scale was all wrong (which it is, but getting spacing of the planets to scale would be hugely impractical!); and others about why the colours should be changeable, how long a person could survive on each planet, what sort of life forms might evolve in the conditions of each planet…it was a long afternoon, and I learned a great deal!As a kit this is fine for this age group. It’s quite a brittle plastic like many of these models, and something to deburr the snap-off connections is useful – we used a small electric nail file. My young scientist was very pleased with the end result, and is now working on designing a ‘galaxy’ surround for it to be displayed in. For the child it’s provided a screenless, satisfying activity and prompted further scientific curiosity and creativity. For me it’s kept them fully occupied without needing to monitor screen use, and given me a reminder of the extraordinary level of information one young mind can soak up. Definitely recommend!

My only complaint is that not all the paint in the kit will glow. However, it does come with the glow paint to put over the colours. The plastic is solid and does not feel fragile. The paint brush that comes with this is suitable quality, However, If you are artisticly inclined, you might need brushes of varying sizes. Still, a great product overall and has everything you need

A fantastic craft day activity that is fairly simple with good instructions and everything is included in the pack.Information on the planets helps make this an education toy as well.Personally not the best artist but we are happy with the end result and looks great up on the shelf in the toy room

Smaller than I thought, the medium sized planets were the size of an average marble so the smaller planets were a little difficult to paint for the 8yr old. Only one brush included so BYO unless you want to keep washing and drying and re-mix colours. Glow in the dark paint was not enough for all planets and those that got the paint didn’t glow very well. Overall 4 stars for entertainment and educational.

Great way for any youngster to learn about our solar system, whilst having fun.The pieces that make the planets are clearly labelled. The planet models have 3D surfaces to assist with the painting details. There is a generous about of paint supplied. The solar system kit comes complete with a booklet that has information at each planet.A fun educational kit.

A fun and creative project, but it does require some time and imagination. Out of the box, it’s mostly plain plastic, so painting and decorating make all the difference. The glow-in-the-dark feature is a nice touch, and the movable arms allow for some flexibility in display. A great choice for space-loving kids who enjoy hands-on activities.
