This would not stay in place no matter what I did. I don’t think I would recommend this product with so many others on the market.

ALAFLY clearly markets this mount for use with phones and motorcycles, but I thought of a different application as soon as I saw it: to hold my iFi Hip Dac 3 under the tabletop of one of my computer workstations. It works very well for this application (and of course, it works for phones, too).The built-in magnets are very powerful, so the mount attaches very securely; although mine will never see a motorcycle gas tank, I have no doubt that it would stay on at speed. The mount’s clamp does not secure the phone (or similarly-sized item) by spring tension as many do; instead, a thumb screw must be tightened to secure, and loosened to remove the item. It is not as fast as a spring clamp, but in any application (motorcycle or otherwise), it offers what feels to be a more reliable hold — for my particular use, I’ve accidentally bumped the mount with my leg several times, and neither the magnet side or clamp have budged one bit. Very happy with this item.

It works well, but it’s not perfect. The magnet is VERY strong and clings to the tank with ease. But it can still rotate when in use. Overall it’s a great value and does what I need so I’m happy.
