DON’T REMOVE SEED ROCKS!!
Super impressed with this company – we watched videos online of what to do and the instructions we read said to remove the seed rocks after growing. Although we did this super carefully, they all broke into lots of pieces. I wrote to the company and explained what had happened and they very quickly popped a new one in the post for us – the new ones have clear seed rocks so you don’t have to remove them. With great customer service I would definitely buy from this company again!!!!
The new crystals we grew are very cool – they all turn out slightly differently, but that is the nature of the product and experiments in general!! Great buy – the kids (and us adults!) really enjoyed them!

Recommended science activity
There are some good crystals in the set in a range of colours. The light-up stand is an absolutely excellent addition.
The information booklet that comes with the product is also of great quality, and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the information in and the presentation of the booklet.
If you are looking to make crystals as a STEM activity, this seems to me to be the superior choice.

My 8 year old son loved it!
Wasn’t sure which crystal kit to buy for my 8 year old, who has a current interest in crystals and rocks. I am glad we bought this one, as he now has a crystal nightlight in his bedroom which he loves to bits, so it has not been shoved in a drawer somewhere. He and his Dad found the instructions easy to follow, and everything was included in the kit apart from the measuring jug and boiling water! With this kit you get flexible growing pots to grow the crystals in, which you don’t get with most other kits. This makes sure they form to a shape that fits in the nightlight stand. There are 2 pots in the box so you can grow 2 crystals at a time. Ours took about a week to get to a decent size, and we discovered if you put a hairdryer on them when you first put them in the pots they do grow faster as they need some heat. I don’t know if these would grow faster in summer time or you could put near a radiator to make them grow faster, but they have to be kept somewhere where they won’t get knocked or they will be ruined!
The kit included a glow in the dark crystal which is an extra one, I think it’s good to have an extra one in case one of the others gets broken. The colours aren’t as bright as in the picture but they look great in the nightlight and it’s nice that in can be used when it’s all completed! Would recommend it.

Fantastic science kit
This kit was is good I bought several to send to my son’s school so that all the children could have fun and learn. The plastic display lamp is a little pointless.

Great learning opportunities.
This is a great little kit and all the crystal turned out like the picture! My son loved this kit and they grew really quick.
Tip: use freshly boiled mineral water and place the sachet in the water whilst still really hot. The bigger crystals from our kit grew this way. Each one only took 7 days to grow. In all a great kit to spark the love of chemistry and easy to use. The display base is a bonus too.

A Colourful Project For My Autistic Son
My adult son is autistic with profound learning disabilities, and lives in a semi-independent residential/care unit. He loves bright colours and enjoys trying new things, so when I saw this I just had to get it for him for Christmas.
I haven’t seen him since Christmas, but I’m told that he really enjoyed helping his carers to set this project up, and that he is fascinated with watching the crystals grow (just as I was as a teenager, when we did a crystal-growing project for chemistry class). I’m very much hoping to see it for myself when I visit him for his birthday!

Christmas gift
Bought as Christmas gift and therefore unable to give a true rating at this moment in time

This was a gift for my 9 year old for Christmas. He liked it, easy to do and the crystals mostly did great. Out of the 6 , only 1 didn’t grow very well. Unsure why. Be aware the light up device only holds 5 crystals, not 6.
The instruction booklet is outdated. It sent you to a video link that doesn’t work, but it’s easy enough to youtube “national geographic crystal growing”. Another point is that the video instructions conflicted with the booklet. One said “grow in the dark”.. the other said “grow in the light/warm room”.. In the end we did half the batch like the video and the other half like the booklet. It was a great learning experience in experimenting and teaching my son to observe which was ‘better’.
The box also contained just 2 plastic containers.. but we used glass cups from our kitchen since you have to wait 7+ days. We experimented which did better in the soft plastic container v.s. glass cup..
