My dog loves this food
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! –
Words cannot express how much we love this food. Being that our beloved dogs rely on us to feed them a quality diet, we only feel comfortable feeding them the best we can. Aside from cooking them a specially made meal, or buying one of the new refrigerated meals, we feel blue buffalo wilderness is the best you can get. We have a beautiful, loyal bloodhound we feed the large breed formula and a loving goldendoodle puppy we feed the puppy formula. Our bloodhound has a beautiful coat and at the age of 5, which is getting up there for his age, he’s still very active and happy. We see no signs of any joint problems and he’s never been sick. This food has served him very well. As for the goldendoodle, when we got him from the breeder, he was 8 weeks old and eating taste of the wild, which is another high quality grain free food. His stool was softer and he had a bowel movement 4-6 times a day making it difficult to potty train him. I initially was going to wait till he was older to switch him to blue buffalo but due to the difficulty training him due to the amount of movements he had I went ahead and started switching him over by blending blue buffalo in with his meals. I expected that by doing this his stool would get softer due to the transition but it was just the opposit! The more blue I mixed in the firmer his stool and less movements! I ended up switching him completely within 4 days because he was doing so much better on the blue buffalo wilderness. It’s been a couple weeks now and he only has 2-3 bowel movements a day instead of 4-6 and is almost completely potty trained. In addition, when we got him, his coat was a dull red. I hoping within time this food will shine up his coat like it does for our bloodhound.
To sum this up, you can’t go wrong with any variety of Blue Buffalo Wilderness. It’s a great food with excellent nutritional benefits. It cost more than your average grain free food but is worth every penny. You will find you feed less of it and also have less stools without sacrificing the health of your beloved friend.

I thought I’d throw in my two cents on the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Grain dog food (Salmon) and try to put a review together. Unfortunately, probably the most important aspect would be the taste, and how could I know if the taste is any good. So, I asked my dog Jethro what he thought about it. He just looked at me, shook his head, and walked away probably thinking what a moron his master was. So, the next step was to get his reaction when I actually fed it to him. He usually just nibbles around his food and goes back and forth all day until it is done. He devoured this stuff! Thinking it might be just the novelty of it, I kept watching him as I took him through two large bags of it, and as far as things looked, the honemoon never ended for him. He loved the stuff.
I originally started him on this food because he’s part Spaniel and has skin issues. I’d read good things about this brand, and thought I’d give it a try. Even after a couple of bags of this along with Salmon Oil, he still seemed to be having skin issues. I paid out the $500 for the allergy test, and found out that he’s allergic to both chicken and lamb. And, even though this food is billed as Salmon, it still has chicken meal in it. So, I had to move him to something else. Now, I’ve got him on the Blue Buffalo Basics, and he seems to be doing much better. So, that wasn’t a knock on the quality of this product, it just turns out my dog had a couple of weird allergies.
I will say the smell of the Wilderness Salmon is very loud. If the bag is open, I can smell it throughout the house. Thankfully, it comes in a foil-type bag. I advise getting a couple of large chip-clips to make sure it stays closed not only to stay fresh, but to also knock out the stout aroma. This is a great quality food, and barring any weird allergies, I’m sure your dog will love it and thank you for it–if he knew how!

This is the third time I’ve ordered dog food from Amazon, and haven’t had an issue until now. Not a huge issue, but one none the less. This time I got the food, it looks like it’s been cut into( it happens in warehouse work, I get it) But taped over and sold as new. I don’t know if there’s food missing or if maybe its been contaminated by something or other. Pretty unacceptable the more I think about it. Guess I’ll be doing my dog food shopping elsewhere. Haven’t contacted Amazon about it yet, but I have a idea of how it’s going to go. I don’t want to go through all the trouble of sending it back and waiting a few more days to get another one.
EDIT: I contacted Amazon, and the robot surprisingly helped me better than I expected. It issued a refund and I don’t have to return the food since it’s considered “Hazardous”. Good on them.

Nearly every dog food has a set of mixed reviews, since dogs react to foods differently. We have a border collie with a sensitive stomach and an allergy to chicken. For that dog, this food fixed all of her digestive problems (salmon variety). For simplicity at feeding time, we also feed this food to our other dog. Both have been on it for years and still look forward to feeding time. They are also both pushing 12 years old, and show no signs of slowing down or health problems. Of course there’s no way to know how much that has to do with their expensive Blue Wilderness food, but there’s at least correlation in this tiny sample.
It is very expensive. A few tricks I’ve picked up: (1) The price fluctuates on here a lot. Look into a price watching app and buy several bags at a time at the low point. It’s still not cheap, but you can easily pay 15% less doing that. (2) A few years ago I took a gamble and started mixing this 1/2 & 1/2 with a salmon-based Costco brand dog food (light blue bag – not especially cheap itself, but cheaper). The motivation was purely cost, and I can say my dogs handle that mix very well. While I’ve been tempted to switch over to the cheaper food exclusively, I’m hesitant because the dogs are in such great health. For us, the mixed recipe strikes a balance between cost and (perceived?) food quality.
